Spirulina er en blågrøn alge, som har eksisteret i 3 milliarder år og tilhører mikroalgernes familie. Det kan vokse under meget ekstreme forhold, som gør det i stand til at bekæmpe underernæring: Den kan dyrkes lokalt og indeholder en bred vifte af fordele.

Vitaminer

Vitaminer er afgørende for vores udvikling. De er til stede i forskellig slags mad, og vi behøver kun en mindre mængde om dagen for at fungere godt. Vitaminer spredes i 13 kategorier og har forskellige fordele. For eksempel er vitamin A, D, E og K vitaminer, som du kan få fra fødevarer, der indeholder fedt, og kroppen vil samtidig opbevare det i sit eget fedt. Således behøver vi ikke at indtage disse vitaminer hver dag, da de bliver længe i kroppen takket være lagring i fedtet. Men der findes nogle vitaminer, B og C, som er vandopløselige vitaminer, og de forbliver ikke i kroppen, men vi skal derimod spise eller drikke nogle hver dag.

Kigger man på B – og C-vitaminer, så indeholder Spirulina flere af dem. En af disse er B6, som hjælper med fordøjelse af protein og biotin. Spirulina indeholder også Niacin til at sænke kolesteroltal og hjælpe mental sundhed, B1 og B2 derregulerer sukkerniveauet i blodet samt de vigtige B12-vitaminer. B12 vitaminer er meget sjældne i planter, og derfor er spirulina også ideelt til veganere og vegetarer, da B12 overvejende findes i animalske fødevarer. En anden stor nyhed for dem er, at Spirulina er rig på protein og har mere protein per 100g end de fleste typer lød.

Protein

Faktisk kan du i Spirulina finde mellem 60% og 71% protein med de 8 aminosyrer, der er afgørende for menneskekroppen. Når fødevarer indeholder protein, skal disse 8 aminosyrer betragtes som biologisk essentielle, da det er de aminosyrer, som kroppen ikke er i stand til at producere. Når kroppen indtager mad med utilstrækkeligt antal aminosyrer, bliver stofskiftet ubalanceret, fordi kroppen ikke opbevarer disse aminosyrer. Spirulina kan hjælpe med at regulere kosten og indeholder faktisk mere end bare de 8 aminosyrer, men har derimod 17 ligesom modermælk.

Antioxidanter

Spirulina er også fuld af beta-karoten, som er en meget vigtig antioxidant og god kilde til A-vitamin (beta-karoten omdannes nemlig til vitamin A i kroppen). Algerne indeholder en naturlig form for beta-karoten, som gør det lettere for vores krop at optage og bruge det.
 
Mangel på A-vitamin er hovedårsagen til underernæring, og det er en af grundene til, at Spirulina er den perfekte mad til at bekæmpe det. Desuden har undersøgelser fundet, at beta-karoten kan bidrage til at reducere risikoen for kræft og øre immunsystemet (1).

Mineraler

Spirulina har ikke kun gode egenskaber når vi kigger på vitaminer, men bestemt også i forhold til mineraler. Spirulina kan dyrkes i meget ekstreme miljøer, og årsagen til at det indeholder alle dets mange mineraler er, at det er den eneste plante, der kan vokse i bestemte damme, hvor noget meget rigt alkalisk vand er dets vigtigste forsyning. Dette alkaliske vand er fyldt med mineraler, og Spirulina er i stand til at lagre dem, og ligesom beta-karoten, forbliver det i Spirulina i en naturlig form, der kroppen i stand til at forbruge disse mineraler lettere.

Derudover indeholder spirulina meget jern, kalcium, kalium, zink og magnesium. Koncentrationen i mineraler pr. gram er så høj, at den overstiger alle andre vegetabilske kilder eller mejeriprodukter. Spirulina indeholder for eksempel mere kalcium end sødmælk. En anden fordel ved spirulina pulver er, at det er meget lavt i kalorier. En stor spiseskefuld på 7 gram er ca. lig med 20 kalorier. Denne mængde Spirulina vil give omkring 1 gram fedt, men god fedt, da det indeholder omega-6 og omega-3 fedtsyrer.

Spirulina is algae that thrives in subtropical and tropical waters and is one of the most recognized superfoods in the world. Green Machine Spirulina is grown in a cultivated environment and spray dried immediately after harvest to ensure the many nutrients and high quality.

Konklusion

Som det ses i denne artikel, er Spirulina et tæt koncentrat af vitaminer, proteiner, mineraler og antioxidanter. Det er en meget komplet fødevare, som kan øge vores immunsystem. Dog kan den ikke fuldstændig erstatte andre kilder til protein, calcium eller jern, som f.eks. kød. Selvom koncentrationen er meget stærk, må vi ikke glemme, at Spirulina er et pulver og at spise skefulde Spirulina som et måltid er ikke muligt. En til to spiseskefulde per dag er allerede en stor mængde, og svarer til omkring 5 til 10 gram, men vil kun give kroppen 3 til 6 gram protein. Det er bestemt ikke nok, og en anden kilde til protein er nødvendig, ligesom calcium, jern og alt andet.

Personligt vil jeg anbefale at bruge Spirulina som ”ekstra næring” i smoothies, morgenmadsgrød, pandekager, kager, desserter. Vi mener, at det er godt for kroppen at indarbejde Spirulina i dit dagligdagsliv, men det må ikke betragtes som din vigtigste fødevarekilde.
